The mission of The Civic Society is to create a thoughtful and thriving public square by encouraging rich thinking and excellent doing in our community. We aim to encourage rich thinking by creating a medium for members to meet once a month to discuss selected readings. The readings are specifically chosen to cultivate a dialogue around the foundational ideas that make a society flourish. The monthly meetings take place in a Socratic-style round-table format in which a facilitator draws out discussion from members. We choose facilitators that are well versed in the material being discussed and are at the same time skilled in drawing out discussion from participants. Each event begins with an introduction to the text being discussed. Then the facilitators guide the discussion of the reading at each table. We aim to encourage excellent doing by mobilizing a network of people to leave our communities better than we found them.
